Diamonds in the Sky

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star. How I wonder what you are. Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky."

There really are diamonds in the sky! Hence the new star they are naming 'Lucy'.

I never knew this, but Blackbird sent me this BBC article re: the giant diamond star that astronomers discovered humming around some 50 light years away from the Earth.

Apparently, after stars burn out, their cores compress and turn into jewels. They predict that in the next 5 billion years, the sun will cool its blazing hydrogen and turn into crystal diamonds. Will anyone be around to marvel at it's worth?

It's true what you have said about the stars. The more you learn about them, the more impressive they become.

DeB0er's probably already has a slave-wage space crew in stasis headed toward the nearest effing one.

lorena -I have the benefit of some very good star sightings even though I've been relocated from the farm. Reciprocal wishes of a wonderful new year :)

anonymous -You should go there.

adorable girlfriend -I know they are actually very interesting! I like how because they are under so much pressure they actually emit a humming pulsation, which is what allows us to track them and say how far away they are based on the doppler effect of light change. My sister's BF is into Astro Physics and actually discovered one of these white dwarves. Unfortunately, he doesn't get to name it. It got a generic A-135908y2097 like name.

percival -Unless of course, you have night vision or infra red.

madamerouge -And Spence is probably racing them. If only CNN would stop reporting about UFO citings and get a little farther out.

Well Diamonds are a girls best friend. So next time you offer a girl a Star - just say but if you wait 10 billion years I'll give it to you in diamonds.
I'll have to polish that one into a chat-up line myself. lol!
